OCCUPATION by Rich White
The RingOccupation was part of The Ring, a programme of commissions I led as artistic director on behalf of the Canal & River Trust. British sculptor Rich White took residence on Diglis Island. Just a short walk from Worcester City centre, the island which lies at the junction of the Worcester-Birmingham Canal and the River Severn has changed little since it was first used in 1815 to lift heavy timber, boats and coal between boats and the striking crane used remains today. White create a series of timber buildings that played on perspective and changed over the course of the summer as he repainted the exterior. White also collaborated with the island’s sole resident to sign a bespoke flag for the island’s flag pole.
